Iran warned it would launch a “heavy assault” on US assets in the Middle East if its ships face further attacks in the waters surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, where the two sides have traded strikes in recent days.
Despite the flare-up, US President Donald Trump has insisted that a ceasefire agreement with Iran is holding, and that Washington is waiting for Tehran to respond to a proposal on ending the war. The ceasefire has yet to yield a major breakthrough on a long-term peace deal. Meanwhile, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Qatar’s prime minister in Miami.
