Kian Tajbakhsh, an ex-political prisoner, was released from Iranian prison in 2015 and is now a professor at NYU. He warns that in the Middle East what the negotiators are saying in private in English is meaningless and it is only what they say in their own language in public that is truthful. Tajbakhsh says Iran is an expert in using ambiguity for its own purposes and that may happen in backchannel conversations about the agreement.
