China’s top diplomat didn’t name the United States directly when warning against the return of the “law of the jungle” at a news conference in Beijing, but his meaning was crystal clear.
“There are more than 190 countries in the world,” Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday in response to a question from CNN’s Steven Jiang about US President Donald Trump’s “America First” policy.
“Should everyone stress ‘my country first’ and obsess over a position of strength, the law of the jungle would reign again, smaller and weaker countries would bear the brunt first, and international norms and order would take a body blow,” he added.
