This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first edition of the Lemesos International Documentary Festival. Starting with only a handful of spectators, it has grown into a beloved festival institution for Limassol’s cinephiles. Maciej Drygas, director of the documentary “Trains”, talks to Limassol Today, on the occasion of the screening of the film at this year’s festival.
What made you direct a documentary about trains, only with archive material?
I began working on this project fully aware that it would not be a historical account of the evolution of locomotives and carriages. In my notebook, dated 19.09.2014, the very first note reads: “A train journey is a metaphor for life.”
