The sand in Limassol, as in many other areas of Cyprus, is dark due to the geological composition of the area. In this area, the sand contains a high percentage of basaltic and volcanic rocks, which are dark in colour. In particular:
- Volcanic Rocks: In Cyprus, and particularly in the Troodos area, there is a strong presence of volcanic rocks. Volcanic rocks are usually dark in colour, and their erosion creates black or dark sand that is carried to the beaches.
