Cypriots use cards 1.3 times more often than other Europeans, while contactless card payments will steadily account for more than half of all card payments by 2022, Central Bank Governor Christodoulos Patsalides said on Thursday, in his speech at the 12th Banking Forum and Fintech Expo, in Nicosia.
He said that the Central Bank of Cyprus’ key priorities include developments in the digital economy, the evolving role of digital payments, the possible introduction of a digital euro and regulatory frameworks that ensure responsible governance and social parameters in financial systems.
