“On the 19th of July at 6 p.m., I sat in an audience mostly dressed in black (myself included), with no real expectations of what was about to unfold before me. I had been told words like immersive, ritual, avant-garde, and, of course, black metal. We were warned of flashing lights, blood, loud noise, and smoke—and I was beyond excited.
